I think 20 is fine so long as there's enough going on, but any more than that is a bit excessive.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02548680159204361401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-556528429571644528.post-44770425000187160952013-08-13T00:08:24.771-04:002013-08-13T00:08:24.771-04:00Isn't it interesting that there are "rule...Isn't it interesting that there are "rules" until someone breaks them? I don't think of chapters in terms of length any more but rather in terms of how the scenes within advance the story.mshatchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06308916014310536449noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-556528429571644528.post-84987148649582060342013-08-12T18:10:44.614-04:002013-08-12T18:10:44.614-04:00I've never heard 20 pages. I am writing in Word. I guess I will figure out how to transfer it to the book publishing restrictions when I get there. In Word, my chapters tend to range from 9-11 pages. I don't know what that equates to on a "book page." Of course, if I felt like the chapter should be shorter - or longer - for the purposes of the story, I would do it.Robinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14932408372240147454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-556528429571644528.post-85864518575992568302013-08-12T14:18:01.837-04:002013-08-12T14:18:01.837-04:00Some of Dan Brown's chapters are about a page,...Some of Dan Brown's chapters are about a page, and it didn't affect his sales. :)

I prefer chapters to end at a logical point rather than a certain length.Cate Mastershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01371792447604980848noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-556528429571644528.post-30319972440530380382013-08-12T11:14:47.502-04:002013-08-12T11:14:47.502-04:00I like a chapter where enough happens to pull me i...I like a chapter where enough happens to pull me into reading the next chapter. The Happy Whiskhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13438469476168485775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-556528429571644528.post-42302482912965890262013-08-12T09:39:01.482-04:002013-08-12T09:39:01.482-04:00James Patterson is well known for his one-page cha...James Patterson is well known for his one-page chapters.

A chapter should be as long as it needs to be.Maria Zanninihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01604862636922299273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-556528429571644528.post-809889718783364572013-08-12T09:16:46.026-04:002013-08-12T09:16:46.026-04:00I wrote my first novel in longhand, too...and it w...I wrote my first novel in longhand, too...and it wasn't all that long ago!
