Where Are You, Christmas?

I'm getting pretty good at setting writing goals for myself and reaching them. But this is a busy time of year for most of us. In between sessions of writing and keeping up with my blogging, I've been shopping online, addressing Christmas cards and decorating. And finding myself with a definite lack of Christmas spirit.

I love this holiday and the time together with family. But my brain can't quite get around the idea that it's only two weeks away. But starting today, I'm going to indulge in some of my favorite Christmas movies, one per day until I start to feel the warmth of the holiday. There are a very large number of movies to select from.

George C. Scott in A Christmas Carol is probably my all time favorite. As a family, we like to watch the first Home Alone and of course, A Christmas Story. My daughter and I enjoy Prancer together at least once per season. My husband enjoys an annual showing of Jingle All the Way, corny but funny.

So for the next two weeks, I'm going to try to find that lovely anticipation for Christmas and still reach my writing goals. Is there a favorite holiday movie that you watch every year? What gets you in the holiday spirit? Have you set your writing goals aside for the next few weeks or do you keep pounding away at the keyboard among the wrapping paper and ribbons? Don't forget to sign up for the contest on the IWSG site.

I can't believe Christmas is almost here, either, despite how overwhelmed I already am by it. I really need to follow your example and start watching some holiday movies, too!

Less than two weeks and looking forward to it!
We always watch A Christmas Story. I could almost recite it.

Miracle on 34th Street. I like A Christmas Carol too, but I especially like the earlier ones. My favorite is with Reginald Owens, 1938.

I love, love, love the holidays, but I'm with you this year - it feels too early! I'm about a month behind the actual calendar, and I can't seem to catch up. Many people I've talked to feel the same way; I wonder why? Whatever the case, you're right - it's time to catch up to the actual date and enjoy the present. Thanks for the ideas and the reminder :)

I'm a little lacking in Christmas spirit, too. Love your idea of watching Christmas movies. I just might try that, too. :)

Those are sure two good ones, I watch them most years along with Die Hard and Gremlins lol

Oh, Pat, we watch Die Hard too. Try it with me, Dana. Let me know if it works for you.
Liz and Heather, I wonder if it's because Thanksgiving was so late?
Alex, we do quotes from it to though not as memorized as say A Few Good Men.
I love 'Miracle' too, Maria, though not the more recent versions.
I hope your holidays are too wacko, Tammy, though I love the word.

This is a rather strange Christmas this year, since it's the first time we moved house so close to if, so I'm not really in the mood either. Maybe it'll come next week. :-D

Nothing about this year has been usual for us, so two weeks until Christmas, finishing teaching a class, and trying to get writing and holiday hoopla prepared for? I can do it! ;)

We got a DVD with classic Christmas cartoons on it - Frosty, etc. It had Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol on it. Awesome, right? I distinctly remember loving Mr. Magoo. I put it on for my 5-year-old - it was horrible (my small one agreed).

I'm not too hyped up this year for Christmas. We are playing it old school and are giving to causes and doing nice things for people instead of focusing on gifts.
