Much thanks to Patricia Stoltey for letting me share my reason for not taking the indie route with my books. I think the discussion will be going on for a long time. For at least as long as traditional publishers are around but that's a discussion for another day.
On Monday, I'm going to introduce my Dragon Soldiers who will be helping me during the April A to Z Blogging Challenge. I'll have a post on the A to Z site and something here also. You can also volunteer to be one of those lucky soldiers. Let me know in the comments and I'll get back to you quicker than even Smaug can fly.
"The most-called-upon prerequisite of a friend is an accessible ear." Maya Angelou
A whole lot of my writing time has been high-jacked by responsibilities connected to my position as secretary of Pennwriters. Members of the board have been working hard to get a new, website up and running and get the registration for the conference coming up in May up and running. We're having a teleconference tomorrow morning. My point wasn't to whine about the time, because my part has been so small. It takes a lot of patience and understanding for a group of people to put together such a massive undertaking. There are many complex wheels turning behind the scenes of a big conference like ours and it's easy to allow frustration to surface. Hopefully, we'll have a successful conference and everyone will still be talking to each other when it's over. I hope we're all still friends.
I want to also thank LV Barat for hosting me earlier this week. She's another of Musa's authors who must know decide where she's going from here. I talked about the lack of clean water in medieval times where lots of fantasy novels are set.
More on bad news February next week. I don't want to talk about it today and jinx something else bad into happening. And this is an entire post without complaining about the weather.
Enjoy your weekend and share your plans. I'm planning on doing major catch up on writing and some blog posts. Has February been good to you? You can complain about the weather if you want. Ever done a teleconference? Agree with Maya Angelou?
Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou, too!
DeleteGreat post over at Patricia Stoltey's blog.
ReplyDeleteThere's so much to think about...
Good luck with the planning of the conference!
Complain about the weather? We're baking this end of the globe! Mid-summer temperatures have left me all wrung out... really drained...
Have a great weekend!
I've been envying you for months especially when you share those pictures.
DeleteFebruary is always an odd month. I remember an older teacher saying that when I complained I had the most listless crew to excite in my classroom. Over the years, I did noticed it was a somber month. When you have all that love in the air on Valentines, seriousness must be the antidote.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
Never thought about how we go from so happy on Valentine's Day. Then we all just long for spring.
DeleteHope you guys are all still friends as well. When you get that many people together trying to accomplish something, it can be like a multi-headed monster.
ReplyDeleteThe key I think is leadership. We seem to have a good one if she can hold onto her patience.
DeleteI'm so sorry there is bad news. I am happy to be a Dragon Soldier though.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to have all your experience in my camp.
DeleteI'm done with the weather. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL. I bet I can guess where you live. I've forced myself to exercise outside again despite the single digit temperatures.
DeleteI'm just waiting gritting my teeth, bundling up and patiently, ok not so patiently, for daffodils and warmth.
ReplyDeleteOh, I must go read your thoughts on wanting to go the traditional route.
Putting together a conference--teleconference or in person--it's a big undertaking. Wishing you the best on that.

I have hundreds of daffodils on my property. I can't wait for them.
DeleteUgg to the stupid weather, good job not mentioning it haha good luck with the conference and hopefully the bad news isn't super bad
ReplyDeleteDid I mention it? Can't help myself.
DeleteI've only done one teleconference and it was just odd - I'm not a big fan of talking on the phone and not being able to see all the body language that people are using, so it was a tough one for me.
ReplyDeletePutting together a conference requires huge gobs of work, and it's worth it. :)
Wishing you the best on all that you do!
So true, Tyrean. And how will I even know who is speaking?
DeleteConferences take a lot of time and planning. I don't envy you.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your bad news. I hope it's nothing serious.
We had planned to be rid of the frosty weather this week but it's lingering a few more days. At least the husband is home so I'm content. And we're dog sitting for a friend who is currently enjoying the beaches in Cancun.
Winter is lingering for us too. Cold and snow still on the way.
DeleteWonderful quote. I've never done a teleconference. Good luck! I've no plans for the weekend. I just need to rest. Have a good one! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to relax after that teleconference tomorrow. Enjoy your rest.
DeleteFebruary has just been the worst. I think we should seriously consider removing it from the calender if it just keeps acting like this.
ReplyDeleteHave a restful (and hopefully free of snowfall) weekend.
I'm for voting February out too. I don't mind missing Valentine's Day.
DeleteI'm sorry about the bad news. An acquaintance of mine has to decide what route she wants to go with her novel after Musa closes, too.
ReplyDeleteRemember, good news can pop up anytime! Maybe this spring will see you to grand opportunities. You never know.
Thanks for your positive thoughts.
DeleteAloha Susan,
ReplyDeleteI won't talk about the weather (at least not for another three weeks:)
"Break a leg" with all the conference stuff... I know it's hard enough to *attend* a conference, let alone help organize one, so hat's off to you and the other board members:)
PS: Thanks for the kind words today - and I hope the bad news for you soon morphs into good, happy news :)
Thank you, Mark. I hope you bring your weather with you to the east coast. And that coconut bra.
DeleteI teared up reading your blog today. Glad your friend knew how appreciated he was because of people like you. Most of those guys never thought of themselves as heroes.
It's supposed to get a little warmer this week. But it's also supposed to snow more. Oh, brother...
