Hump day in week #3 in the 2013 A to Z Blogging Challenge. Find all the participants here. I'll be slogging on through my theme of my anticipated career as a full time writer when I retire from teaching in June.
O: Optimize and Organize. I've read things written by other writers of how they use their time be they full time or part time. Some set aside a certain number of hours or minutes for promotion such as blogging, visiting social media sites and for other business related chores like email. Then they have their set hours they work on their writing.
I've already learned to do this to some degree but I haven't gone so far as to make set times. I'm more likely to ignore some parts of the business when I get really busy with another one. I'm also likely to wander away from my desk to do some baking or laundry. I might have two hours in the evening to write, but with all the interruptions I'm lucky to get more than an hour. I feel I need more discipline to use my writing time wisely. I intend to set aside the time of day I check blogs and then get off the Internet and write. I may need to spend some hours out of the house for that. I find when I go to the local coffee shop, my focus stays on my writing and I get a lot done.
How do you organize your time? What things distract you when you should be writing? Do you feel like you optimize your time?

Posting Guilt
I haven't updated my blog for almost two weeks. I feel horribly guilty for neglecting not only my own blog but also those of my friends. I had a hard deadline on edits for Beyond the Gate, Book II in The Futhark Chronicles. It was the most difficult edits I've done so far. I won't go into the details here, but at some later date I will vent a little about different expectations from editors. What's a writer to do when one editor demands every 'that' in the manuscript be removed and a different editor puts them back in? Mmm.
But today I sent off the changes almost 36 hours before my deadline and this during the first week of school and in between two four hour hockey scrimmages, back to school shopping and delivering one child to college. I think I'll take a few days to just catch up with my friends on facebook and update this blog and my website.
For you bloggers out there, what was the longest you ever neglected your blog or social network? And did you have a good reason?
