My insecurity this month isn't a little thing. It's a huge one. I'm getting ready to publish my first book using Kindle Direct Publishing. Though I manage to do lots of basic things on my computer, I really don't know my way around it. I'm extremely intimidated by the task in front of me.
A few writer friends have given me starting points and I've ran off copies of the instructions from Amazon but I'm still dithering about jumping into this project. Do I have my manuscript formatted correctly? Have I done enough editing? What have I gotten myself into? Should I pay someone to help me with the first time?

Susan, you strike me as someone who's really precise - I bet you've done it all correctly. And if not, you'll know what to fix I'm sure!
Although I don't have any advice to help you with this project, I'm sure there are plenty of people that would be happy to help you though this process. I hope you'll post about it so the rest of us can learn a thing or two. Good luck!
I have no doubts that you will do a fantastic job and be able to handle anything that comes your way.
How exciting and frustrating at the same time.
I don't know enough to help you but there has to be someone out there that can.
You may want to check with your local library too. Sometimes they have classes or can put you in touch with those who run them.

I know how you feel. Just that little niggling doubt can completely throw off your groove and the process grinds to a halt. Though I'm sure that you've done it all spot on and as soon as it gets set in motion, it'll be easy sailing :)
Those are some of the reasons I haven't pursued publishing with Kindle Direct Publishing. I just haven't been able to figure it out. It is extremely intimidating. Good luck with that. I'm sure you'll figure it out... it looks like you're almost there.
If you haven't joined Yahoo Writers Groups, I encourage you to do so. They are very helpful and responsive to questions. One lady formatted my MS for Smashwords, another formatted it for CreateSpace. Both did it for free too!
Anne Gallaher at Piedmont Writer http://piedmontwriter.blogspot.com/ is currently formatting her book for Kindle. You might want to try to see if she could be a resource for sharing tips.
We're in the same spot. Although, I'm waiting for my piece to come back from the editor right now. I'm debating hiring someone, too. Although, I may still make an attempt myself. I'm trying to convince my computer savvy friends that this would be a great side business for them. lol
formatting and editing--what fun. maybe that's why i'm putting off writing this one. i know what's ahead of me. it isn't pretty.
I've formatted many books for print and ebook versions. It's stressful, because it has to be perfect.

It is daunting the first time, but after you follow the instructions once, you'll feel much better! I honestly wouldn't pay anyone to do it. If you make a mistake, simply fix it and upload a new version (the beauty of the process).
