I spent the end of 2011 getting the first two books in The Futhark Chronicles up for sale in the ebook market. After taking back my rights to The Keepers of Sulbreth and Beyond the Gate, I self-published them. It was time consuming as I navigated those paths for the first time. Now I have the third and fourth books to get ready.
On the back burner is my second fantasy series of which I have the first book written and the second book started. I'm researching some small publishers to find a home for it. I long to get back to writing something new but feel I have to do the self-publishing on my other series first.
On top of that, I have a fantasy romance I want to polish up and send to my romance publisher, New Concepts Publishing. And circling around in my head is the plan for another fantasy series. I love starting new projects but I'm swamped with the other stuff.
Do you enjoy diving into a new book or do you like getting that first draft out of the way and then getting into the editing process? How long does it take you for a first draft?

I like to get the first draft out of the way! I'm writing a first draft now, and I can't wait to be done and to start fixing it.
My first book took three years to write. Second took less than one. Third should take four months. So they are getting easier. I love every part of the writing process. Draft, edits. Research. Its all good!
I like editing and first draft writing. Right now I'm in the middle of a first draft. Congrats on taking control of your novel sales.
Wow, you sure are prolific, aren't you? I enjoy just about all aspects of writing, but what I plan to enjoy most is when I decide I am DONE farting around with my book. Enough re-writes, already!!!
Now if only we could all retire from our day jobs and have as much time as we want for all the different parts of writing.
I love writing first drafts. One day I'll actually revise one all the way through to the end!
First drafts are my favorite. The perfectionist in me always wants to go back and edit/revise things as soon as I write them, but I love writing a story for the first time.
Takes me forever on a new draft - I have so many started and just laying about. I do prefer editing to drafting. Getting the initial story written is hard work.

I have the same problems, Susan. But too many ideas is a good problem to have! :)
I *mostly* concentrate on one story at a time now, though I've been keeping a notebook of ideas, beginnings, dialogue lines, whatever comes to me.
Glad to hear you're in the final stages with your third in the series.
I love first drafts!! It's my favourite part of the whole process :)
I love editing. But I also love having story ideas. I wish I had time to address every one of them!
