If you're a regular follower of this blog, you might get tired of all the times I refer to 'when I retire' throughout this next year. But here's another vow I'm making to myself.
I'm going to be a better follower of my bloggy friends. I try to make sure I comment back to people who comment on my blog. And I have my list of friends on my sidebar so I can easily see when they've updated their blogs and make sure I visit them.
But I follow a lot of other blogs and don't get to them nearly often enough. I love blogfests but then I feel guilty when I don't get to visit everyone participating. And beyond the guilt, I know I'm missing out on lots of interesting and useful posts.
So when I retire and become a full time writer, part of every day will be spent keeping up with all those I've not been giving my fair share of attention to. I'm going to visit all over the place.
And I'm sure between now and then I'll discover even more blogs. I hope those new friends make it easy to follow them by putting their follow buttons near the top of their blog if they're using blogger. I hope they turn off word verification to make it easy to comment.
When I retire.....
So is it just me or are those word verification scrambles getting harder to read? It nearly always takes me two tries to get it right. Do you make it easy for someone to follow your blog?

That's a good goal! It does take time to keep up with everyone.
I make it all as easy as possible.
You're going to be surprised at how busy you get once you retire. It's kind of like closets - the bigger the space, the more quickly they fill. Strange phenomemon.
Those captchas are terrible. I agree.
Hugs and chocolate,

You're such a good person, Sue! Nice goal.
Yes, those verification things are getting harder to read; or *gasps* I'm getting older :}
I've turned that word verification thing off twice - I think it's interesting that blogger likes to put it back on . . .without asking.
I love your goals, and I totally get your feeling. I'm not good about making it through all the lists in blog fests. It takes time that I can't seem to find.
That sounds a lot like what I want to do. Granted, I have about 35 years before I retire, so we'll see if that number can be crunched down a bit by becoming a writer full-time. :)
yeah i was wondering about how to get notified when a blogger i follow posts---i just hadn't had robyn do it for me yet haha---yeah i hate that word thingy :)
I noticed when I was on vacation how much easier it was to keep up with all the blogs I follow, get a lot of writing done, AND have time for outdoor activities. Retirement sounds pretty good to me :)
I thought everyone hated the word verification. I prefer to have approved comments, because I've had some harassment in the past.
I have fairly good eyes, and those words and numbers are being skewed by the computers that plan to take over the world, just like Pinky and the Brain from Animaniacs. They're trying to find the real robots.
Don't save everything for retirement, make a little time for you, now. Good luck.
Word verification never bothered me before. But now that I can barely read them, it's become a problem.
And with some posts, even if I keep hitting that refresh thingy, I still can't get my comment through.
I "retired" myself about 9 months ago and you know what? The time just gets swallowed up by other things. If something is important to you, you make time for it.
I hate to tell you this but all that free time you're looking forward to...somehow it just doesn't happen.
Melanie and LD are right. All that free time you thought you'd have goes to other (hopefully) more interesting things, but not necessarily the things on your list.
It takes more focus to plan your day since the dreaded day job isn't there to dictate to you.
I didn't use to have trouble with word verification, but I am now. I try to make it easy for people to find ways to follow--Google Friend Connect, email updates, RSS.
I like thinking about all the stuff I'm going to do when I retire. It's a pretty long list though!
I have to laugh at the audacity of a machine making me prove that I'm human. We're just one step closer to the robot uprising.

I like the post and admire your decision. I think it takes a lot of time but I love the sense of community amongst bloggers. I am sure I will never meet the majority of people I follow and read but I value what they bring to my life.
Wonderful post! I'm pretty good at making time to visit and comment on blogs but then, when I don't have time to do so, I feel like I better go on the computer as quick as I can to do it! Sure, it's time consuming but it's well worth it. :)
