Do you see the light at the end of the tunnel for the A to Z Blogging Challenge? Check the list and see how many blogs you can pick from the visit. I had to think long and hard to find the right word for today's post on how I will improve as a writer and author when my June retirement comes around.
Y: Yearn. I've sold nine books to publishers and self pubbed a few on my own. I feel like a moderately successful author even though I'm not getting any where near to rich. A fear I have is that I'll settle into complacency. I'll start to be happy to stay right where I am. I hope that I always yearn for more.
I yearn for a big book contract where the publisher will do loads of promotion for me. I yearn for some movie maker to want my book to make into a feature film. (I do have a list of actors who should be in that movie). I yearn to see my bank account make tax day extremely painful, even more so than it is now with my teaching salary. I yearn for so many contracts coming into my inbox that I need to change the ink cartridge after I print them all out. And I hope I never stop yearning for more.
Do you ever fear your drive to do or be more is lagging? What do you yearn for as a writer right now? Are you yearning for A to Z to be over?
I think a movie contract would be every writer's dream! To see your book out there with actual actors would be wonderful (and probably frustrating as well!)
ReplyDeleteI just yearn to write the next book, dying to know how it ends...

I worry that I will forget why I started this author journey. That's going to be part of my IWSG post this week.
ReplyDeleteI yearn to just get over this inability to get my first book out in the world. And worried that I'll never figure it out.
ReplyDeleteI salute those of you who have figure it out. You are my idols.
i hope i always yearn for something---ya got me thinking this morning, susan!
ReplyDeletePart of me yearns for people to meet the characters I've grown to love, but another part isn't so sure I want to share them.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine NOT yearning for something, dreaming, striving, challenging, goal setting, learning. What would I do with myself? :)
ReplyDeleteYes, someone make my books into movies! Preferably not the SyFy Channel though.
ReplyDeleteI've day dreamed about my books being made into movies. That would be amazing. I hope I never stop yearning to write more.
ReplyDeleteMy yearnings are still pretty basic. I want to walk into a Barnes and Noble (or whatever bookstore survives) and see a book written by me sitting on a shelf.
ReplyDeleteI am yearning for good health. Pretty basic right now.
ReplyDeleteright now I'm just yearning for an agent but I also hope to support myself with my writing at some point. Even if I never get rich, I'll be pretty happy if my job is something I love.
ReplyDeleteWhile we always write for ourselves, it's also nice to get some recognition...regardless of the form it takes.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck! :)
Actually, I yearn to finish my few web development projects so I can focus totally on writing.
