Good Habits and Already Home

I posted on this blog a few months ago that it takes about 3 weeks at a certain behavior to make it a habit. As a former health teacher, I appreciate that good habits have to be worked at. I try to walk or jog at least one hour 5 or 6 days per week. I floss nightly and go to the dentist every 6 months. Later today, I'll be visiting the dermatologist for my yearly checkup.

I've probably mentioned on her a few times that I grew up on a family farm. That meant hours and hours in the sun for all those years. And I played sports through high school and college. More sun. After college, at the old age of 21, I started my career as a PE teacher, coach and then watching my own children play sports. Lots and lots of sun. So for almost twenty years now, I go visit the dermatologist. Use that sun screen, everyone, please. And visit that dermatologist anytime you're not sure if something is as it should be. That's my summertime lecture.

Another habit I've picked up over the years is writing at night. 10 pm to midnight are my best hours. I wish I could change that but I haven't managed it yet.

In other real news. Heather M. Gardner's book Already Home: A Macquire's Corner Novel is available to day. Find it on:

Amazon  B&N  Kobo

Coffee shop owner Maggie Maguire doesn’t trust the new police chief her father hired to protect Maguire’s Corner. He’s a stranger, cold, bossy and annoyingly handsome. But, Maggie’s witnessed a serious crime and now someone’s trying to kill her. The man that aggravates her most might be the only one that can help her.
Police Chief Jack Munro likes his new job and his new town, and unfortunately he also likes the stubborn but beautiful town sweetheart. His self-imposed hands-off Maggie policy is about to be put to the ultimate test when he must keep her close to protect her while he tracks down a ruthless killer.
Determined to ignore Jack’s charms, Maggie attempts to help him unravel the mystery but when their lives hang in the balance she must decide how much she’s willing to risk to save the man she suddenly can’t resist.

Writers' meeting tomorrow so I'm pretty excited about that. Then some time writing and reading on the front porch.

What are your plans for the weekend? Do you always use sun screen? What good health habit do you practice? Are you going to check out Heather's book?

Didn't realize it took three weeks to make something a habit...wow. Makes sense, though. It has always seemed far easier to break a habit than make one, at least for me!

Good to know that three week bit. I've been trying to make it a habit to floss every night. Actually, I've been trying to make a habit of writing every day, too!

Congrats to Heather!!

I've heard the thing about three weeks to make something a habit. Which is why I never get going on the healthy eating thing...

I loved Heather's book (and the cover is beautiful). So happy for her!

Just went to the dentist the other day for my twice a year visit. My teeth might not be the prettiest but they're very healthy so I'll take it. :)

Good luck at the dermatologist!

Took me 3-6 months before I stopped craving crappy food. Rest of my habits are good though

Congratulations to Heather! She rocks.
I burn easy, so I always use sunscreen.

Must've been really interesting to grow up on a farm. Many of us are so disconnected to that kind of life.

They say it doesn't take that many weeks for us to make something a habit. I generally write earlier. I try to write every lunchtime when life is too busy to make much time. Sure, I'm not social, but at least I'm being productive.

I always wear sunscreen.

I 've tried to be good about sunscreen. I resisted flossing for years, though I have finally made it a habit. The threat of more frequent dental appointments finally convinced me.

Happy Friday!

I always try to use sunscreen when I go out in the sun, my skin is really fair and burns easily!

I grew up on the beach so sunscreen is part of my daily ritual all year long.
I don't know how you write at night, although I've been known to get up at 5am and blow off a few chapters. I guess it all depends on the writer.

Always always have used sunscreen. And a hat to shield my face. Healthy habits? Stay active. Keep the mind active too. Eat fruit and vegetables, and no, lettuce & tomatoes on a Big Mac don't count.

I always tell new writers to find their best writing time and pay attention to that. Very good that you learned that about yourself. I hear so many writers where, they haven't a clue at to what works for them, and what doesn't.

Happy Weekend.

Oh yeah, definitely use the sun screen. I can't even look at the sun without getting a burn :).

I actually kind of wish my writing hours were later. It would be a lot quieter and I could get some thinking done.

I definitely use sunblock all the time. I freckle like crazy and I turn lobster red if I don't use it. I also slather it on my son! Have a wonderful weekend. Congrats to Heather! :)

I think about all of those good habits, but I'm not good at them. I do walk sometimes. I brush regularly but don't floss like I should. I've never been one to stay out in the sun much more than I needed to, but I have gotten some nasty sunburns when I was younger.

Unfortunately, my muse often wakes me up in the early hours of the morning when I should be asleep. That's when I write my best pieces. Yawn!

Luckily, I can write in the morning or the evening, and I do use sunscreen, try to eat my fruits and veggies, and walk every day multiple times. The dog helps :)

I can't use sunscreen, here! It is way too expensive. :( A 6oz bottle is about $10, at the cheapest. But I have been building better habits, like getting to the gym, and making my lunch instead of eating out. I'm hoping to keep myself motivated, since I want to lose a fair amount of weight before I move to Canada next year.

As for writing... argh... need to get in the habit. Still. >.<;

Wear that sunscreen. You bet. I stay pale all year long!

I had a dark complexion growing up. So I never had that great need to sunbathe like others.
Standing in my mom's hospital room a few weeks back, I realised I had wrinkles on my arms. However, better on my arms than face. I go for a yearly skin cancer check too.

Thank you so much for having Already Home on your blog!
I was so afraid I was annoying people that I didn't send out a follow-up email and I wasn't sure who would post, and who wouldn't.
I appreciate that you did and I thank you.
