Question of the Month

It's the first Monday of the month and time for Question of the Month blog hop started by the multi-talented Michael G. D'Agostino. Each month, Michael comes up with a question not only to make one think but also to expose a bit of ourselves to our followers. You can find the entire list of participants here and feel free to join in. November's question:

“Are you an introvert or an extrovert?”

That is a complicated question, isn't it? I would judge myself an introvert and always have been. I'm not shy but I don't seek out people just to talk. I'm very comfortable with quiet and keeping my thoughts to myself. I seldom engage in arguments and believe everyone who has an opinion opposed to mine is entitled to be wrong. I'm not the person who will start up a casual conversation with the person sitting beside me in a waiting room or on a plane. I like long drives by myself where I have the peace inside my own head as my only companion. I have no trouble speaking in front of people but I also don't have any need to have all the attention on me. Good thing since I grew up with six siblings and have six children of my own. Alone time is very important to me.

Thanks Michael for another interesting question.

I hope all of you in the USA go out and vote tomorrow. Some local political drama around me though I'm sure lots of people won't take the few minutes needed since it's not a presidential election.

My birthday is later this month and that makes my birthstone topaz which I've always thought was the least attractive of monthly gemstones. But I read somewhere that topaz was once thought to increase wisdom so maybe I should reconsider my opinion.

And happy Monday in general. We're supposed to have beautiful weather her in Pennsylvania this week so I'm predicting some great walking days and a last cleanup of the grounds before we start expecting snow.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Do you like time alone? Are you going to vote tomorrow? Do you wear birthstone jewelry or have you gifted it to someone?

I'm a lot like you. I like my alone time.

I'm comfortable with quiet, and I value - need! - my alone time.

Happy Birthday! :)

I liked how you answered the question about being an introvert/extrovert. Except for speaking in public, that would pretty much describe me :)

We voted by mail here for the election tomorrow; on the ballot was a tax increase for the schools and whether the school district should sell some of its assets no longer needed. I did vote but now I have to go down to the election office by tomorrow because my signature on my ballot doesn't match the signature on my voter application form and they want to make sure I'm the same person, LOL, so I have to fill out a new form. A bit of a hassle, but want to make sure it is legally done.

You could have described me in your description of yourself as an introvert.

I've always rather liked topaz, the warm shades of honey. It also comes in blue.

I call myself an outgoing introvert. I'm a Sanguine/Melancholy mix, so the two are always pulling at each other.

I love Minions. They should take over the world.

I'm an introvert. I love my alone time and I'm happy being in my head. (It's actually pretty crowded in my head! *LOL*) I'm an October baby too. Opal is my stone.

I love my alone time. It's probably the reason I keep putting off having kids. They're not very good with that kind of thing.

My birthday is next week, and I'm also a topaz. I've never liked it either, but I could use a little more wisdom...

I lucked out on the birthday stone with September sapphire because blue is a favorite color of mine. And yeah, I'm an introvert. I would much rather listen to people talk than speak myself. So I married an extrovert. The only problem? My children will not stop talking, so now it's three against one.

I too enjoy long solitary drives or driving with just my wife with me. I have found that striking up a conversation in a situation where I'm kind of stranded with others helps the time go by more pleasantly and sometimes leads to some productive encounters.

My alone time, with the cats as they never leave me alone lol, sure works for me too.

The best company is ourselves. :) I love all solitary acts but after so much solitude, I need to be around a few people I enjoy.

I love my alone time, too. And I love driving by myself, although that may be because it's the only time I can sing where no one will hear me...
My birthstone is peridot, which I've always hated (light green is not my color). My sister's is topaz and she never liked hers either. Guess we had bad birthstone timing!

Hi Susan .. definitely an introvert - who has got over it. But I'm happy on my own, but enjoy socialising too ... Garnet is my stone ... it's rather nice - but sadly I lost the only pin I had with garnet in ... one day I can get another ... Cheers Hilary

Oh I'm an introvert, no question. I always get exhausted if I'm talking to people for too long. I really need quiet alone time. And I think topaz is pretty, both in blue and in yellow. :)

We were lucky enough to be at the county seat last month and did early voting. Always nice to get that out of the way without having to wait in line.

I love my alone time! Like you I was the oldest of six children and lived in a big city. I felt like I was never alone. I was never happier than when I moved out to the country.

If I don't get my alone time, people get hurt, whether emotionally or physically. Not sure if your personality is supposed to be an emotional reaction trigger, but if I spend too much time around others, I eventually "Hulk-out".

I'm both an introvert and an extrovert, depending on who I'm with. I lean more heavily toward introvert, though.
Happy birthday for later in the month.

We are all a bit of both, but being an introvert is great too. There's something amazing about being very comfortable with yourself. :)

Six kids? I'd be locking myself in the bathroom and turning on the exhaust fan to get some solitude!! Lol. Bless your heart. Thanks so much for stopping over at my blog! Great to meet new folks.

I'm most certainly an introvert. I need my alone time as well. It's wonderful to have peace and quiet.

I'm actually very much an extrovert but for some strange reason when I first get to meet someone I am a little shy... very strange :-)

That's easy. I'm both.

Happy almost birthday.

Long drives by myself are great :) I avoid casual chatting and arguments, too. My birthstone is ruby and I was never really a fan of that color.

I couldn't imagine having six siblings. But I suppose if I did I'd be used to it.

mshatch said...

I can't imagine NOT having six siblings! But I wonder if that's what makes me need/want so much alone time...hmmm.

We're supposed to have a warmer than normal week here, too :)

I'm a seventh child, so grew up valuing alone time, lol. Eventually the need to be around people hits me again.

This week is gorgeous! Hope you're getting to spend some time outdoors.

You probably get your social needs met (and exceeded) by your large family. I grew up in a family of 8. I enjoyed finding quiet spaces all to myself.

Tyrean Martinson said...

Thanks for the reminder to vote! I need to fill out my ballot after deliberating for the last few weeks. :)
Wow, lots of siblings. I'm an only with two kids (and a husband) and I still like some alone time. I'm definitely on the introvert side of the scale, but I also like to have social time for short periods of time and I can occasionally be a ham. However, as soon as I'm done making a fool of myself, I'm off to hide behind a book.

Happy Soon-Birthday!!! You definitely have wisdom.

I think about two months ago, I would have called myself an introvert, however, after reading a few articles about the falsehood of the Myers-Briggs test, and then subsequently, the reality that introversion and extroversion ARE traits, but not fully defining of a personality at all times. In any case, I usually consider myself a happy neutral, who needs "me" time, but also social time so as to not get lonely. :)

we're expecting to have great weather all week. I for one am pleased since I know winter can get rough on our part of town. oh and I'm an introvert. I pretend to be extroverted in an effort to make it so :)
