If you're one of the IWSG people who prepare their posts well ahead of time, don't forget you can use the monthly question for inspiration for your post. For September;
How do you find time to write in your busy day?
"A questioning man is halfway to being wise." Irish proverb
Many schools and colleges are back in session by now. And I'm so glad I don't have to follow the academic calendar or the bells anymore. I'm also so happy to be able to visit the library, the bookstore and basically any kind of shopping while all the kids are in school. The joy!
"Snow and adolescence are the only problems that disappear if you ignore them long enough."
Earl Wilson
Went for a haircut a few days ago. It seemed to grow really fast or maybe time is just flying by. I always thought my hair grew slowly but I've been more conscious of my diet in recent years so maybe it is growing faster. Time for a fun fact about that.
The average person grows about 138 feet of hair per day.
I guess those guys who have to shave for work every day believe that one.
Next Wednesday, get ready to learn the detail of the next IWSG anthology contest. It's very exciting and I'm expecting some great entrees with all the creative talent in our growing group.
One of the members or Pennwriters is hosting an anthology in the Christian genre. I haven't vetted this but I know there aren't tons of paying opportunities for writers in this area. Check out Gina Napoli's page and see if you're interested. She's paying a flat fee for articles.
Back into the writing cave for me between bouts of swimming in the last hot days of August. Not doing anything else except a visit to the library and lunch with friends, a few walks...
Does your hair grow fast? Thinking about any anthologies in the near future? Does the start of school influence your life in any way?
A good question for September's ISWG.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the post very much interesting to read.
Yvonne.
The only downside to kids being back in school is the stupid school bus.
ReplyDeleteMy hair grows fast but I didn't realize that fast.
Will check out the Christian anthology.
Interesting fact about hair growth. My last hair cut, she cut it shorter thsn I liked, but at least I haven't needed a cut since April. Not too affected by the start of school here. Just see more kids walking in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteBetty
The academic calendar doesn't affect me too much, other than more traffic out on the road. And school buses.
ReplyDeleteStill have to write up my IWSG post....
I had no idea hair grew that fast. I don't think mine does but hubby is forever getting his cut. Schools haven't actually started round here, next week though.
ReplyDeleteDamn, that is a lot of hair. Could give the cat a run for his money haha good to just write sometimes indeed. There is more traffic with the kiddos back in school though.
ReplyDeleteI don't think my hair grows that fast but maybe it does. I'm thinking about contributing to the IWSG anthology... we'll see how it goes. :)
ReplyDeleteThe start of school is a mirage across a desert of fights, endless hours of "Mommy, I'm bored," and repetitive chores. September 7, please come soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen my hair gets long enough to cause neck pain, that's when I go for a cut.
Great IWSG question, good timing too, during the transitional back to school period when summer frenzy defers to autumn whimsy. By all accounts this should be my most creative time of year. Perhaps I'll drag my desk outside :-)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, that fact sounds wrong. Like that 'you swallow 7 spiders a year' fact that's just a myth. Who knows, though? Maybe I'm wrong, but my hair definitely doesn't grow that fast.

^The more you know
138 feet per day? That sounds off. I've read that the hair on our head grows about 1/2 an inch a month.
ReplyDeleteA Christian themed anthology sounds like a good idea.
My scalp hair grows very fast. I'm not quite sure about my beard hair because it all seems to grow at a different rate. That sounds like an interesting anthology. I'm starting my sophomore year in college, so the start of college (today) definitely affects me.
ReplyDeleteMy hair grows fast as well, though when I'm trying to grow my bangs out, not fast enough! Looking forward to the details on the next IWSG anthology contest :)
ReplyDeleteGreat question for us to ponder for the next IWSG post. Hopefully, I won't flake out and miss this one. You have certainly been busy. Thanks for reminding us to write. My bangs grow super fast. I would love to grow them out, but I just can't stand the in-between stage. Looking forward to the next anthology.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan - schools are about to go back here ... I can't keep track! Just don't want to get involved in the afternoon school run though.
ReplyDeleteHair - I could do with someone's extra 60 feet ... I've so little - tis the genes ... I'm trying to get my writing ahead - not always easy .. cheers Hilary
The only thing that's impacting my writing time at the moment is the big project to get my mom moved from Illinois to Colorado. I expect to be back on track with writing by November (NaNoWriMo, here I come.)
ReplyDeleteThe writer's life ebbs and flows. You will find your flow. Enjoyed the post.

Maybe that fact is what the growth of each individual follicle adds up to. It's a lot! Mine grows fast. I get it cut about every six weeks and it's always getting out of control by that point. School starting has a big effect on my life. It becomes much more organised!
ReplyDeleteMy hair grows pretty fast, but not that fast! :) My whole family is "hairy" so I've always attributed it to that and not my diet, although one of my cousins and I noticed that our mothers never took or ate calcium and their hair went white early and we both try to take calcium and our hair is only grayish (and getting more so, but at a slower rate that our mothers' hair).
ReplyDeleteGlad you get to enjoy the last bit of summer with swimming, shopping, and friends!
Happy Writing!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe start of college is now on my radar, as each semester brings new challenges with Bigger Girl.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your swimming!
Thanks for the anthology link. My hair doesn't grow at all for several weeks then one morning I look in the mirror and realize there's been a frenzy of growth the night before and I need an immediate haircut. Or at least that's what I tell my stylist when I call for the appointment.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that I'm growing 138 feet of hair per day. I might be losing that much. But I am due for a haircut since it's been a couple of months since my last one.
