Good Fall Things

Some exciting things happen in October. The leaves change and depending on where you live, it may have already started. My backyard is already getting colorful. My granddaughter had discovered the fun of jumping in piles of leaves. So now it takes even longer to rake with her assistance. But it's worth it.

The Draconid Meteor Shower will hopefully give us some delightful viewing tomorrow night. Unlike some of the meteor showers, the Draconid can be viewed after sunset instead of after midnight. I hope the rain goes away by then. Read more about them here.

I threw out almost 20K words on my WIP because it wasn't any good. LOL. That's a totally unbiased opinion. I hated it and what I'm replacing it with is better. So far.

"Ideas should be clear and chocolate thick." Spanish proverb

I haven't shared wisdom from The Old Farmer's Almanac recently. So here it is. When buying pumpkins to use as your fall or Halloween decorations, only pick ones with stems on them. The stem slows decay.

Our family has a lot of birthdays in the all. Both of my stepsons, my birthday, and my oldest sister. Not that any of us want to celebrate getting older. Getting older does encourage one to appreciate the small things. Cool fall nights. Fall scents like hot cider, burning leaves, and apple pie. I love to watch the geese fly south. Living in the country, sometimes there are half of a dozen flocks in the sky at one time.

"Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the Titanic who waved off the dessert cart." Erma Bombeck

That new show, Evil, is very scary. I'm enjoying it immensely. So many unanswered questions and the characters are complex and interesting. Stumptown and Prodigal Son have caught my interest but I don't know if they'll keep it. I'm going to give Watchmen a try on HBO. Supernatural is back this week. Yippee.

I'm always excited to find a new author and a new book series to read. The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter is one that has me excited. The world Winter created is unique and the protagonist is complex. The question of who the good guys are will keep you turning the pages. I loved this book and can't wait for the next one.

Will you try to see the meteor showers? What do you like best about fall? Have you discovered any new fantasy series you could recommend to me?

I'm behind on my TV watching, but still on board with Evil and The Prodigal Son.

I'm an October baby, too, and I think I'm going to take that Erma Bombeck quote to heart this month. :)

If it's not cloudy tomorrow night I'll look for it.

We're getting ready (I hope) for a fall showing. However, it's been in the high 90s feeling like 100 for a couple fo weeks. Now it's in the 40s at night so we might go straight to winter.

I both love and hate Evil. I can't drag my eyes away but am so scared. That personal monster is my worst nightmare, crawling in be with her. Yikes.

That's so cool about the meteor shower. I really hope I remember to look. And that there's no rain!

I forgot about The Prodigal Son. I've been watching that too. It's giving me some Hannibal vibes.

We had two dry weeks and now the rain won't stop. Seems to always be cloudy when a meteor shower is due.

Thanks for the smile. Fall has the best scents.

I expect ours to really get colorful in the next week or so as the temps drop.

I remember we went straight to winter last year. Yeah, Evil is scary. The dream where you can't move. In my bad dreams, I never seem to be able to open my eyes. Maybe that's me trying to wake up.

I made a note in my planner to make sure I don't forget. I should set an alarm on my phone.

Never knew that about pumpkin stems. haha gotta have fun in the leaves. Sometimes you do have to chuck out the words if you can do better.

20K?? That's rough, lol. At least you know you're replacing it with something better.

Wish I could see the meteor shower but doubt I could see it. That's awesome that you cut 20K words. I cut 30K words once but it was over multiple revisions where I started out not cutting enough.

Your welcome. You're right, I'd rather not use the mobile phone as all, Susan, but my hearing aids are channelled through the mobile phone app, and having to speak to customers, it is the only way I can cope. And Apple insists on a phone number. I'd rather use my landline, but the wretched hearing aids can only be connected clearly to a mobile.

Now that i know about it, i will try to look for that meteor shower. Of course, we've had two weeks of clear skies and now the prediction is for a bit of rain and cooler temps. Oh, well, that's often the way of it.

The leaves are certainly changing in our neck of the woods. One tree locally has been turning gold for the last month. I'm so glad we don't have to rake leaves any more. That book looks interesting although I am too busy reading yours at the moment.

I love everything about fall! Ours is taking a dip into winter this week, however, with snow and bitter cold, at least for a couple of days. The leaves haven't even changed color on most trees, so that's a little disappointing. I must cover flowers or let them go...

Hi Susan - Fall is definitely here ... crunchy leaves and windfalls - love some of it! Our leaves are turning, but lots still green - while the clouds are here and getting heavier - foreboding for a deluge. Sadly I think I'll miss the meteor shower ... but I see the Big Dipper or as we call it 'The Plough' when the sky is clear - delightful constellation. Enjoy the drift off into Halloween et al - cheers Hilary
