IWSG: December

It's that time of month again for the IWSG monthly blog hop. Our fearless and tireless leader, Alex J. Cavanaugh started this supportive group more than three years ago. The group is a safe place where writers can share concerns, offer advice and expertise while growing a group of online friends and support. Find the entire list on the IWSG website or join the IWSG Facebook page.

This month is special for IWSG group as it marks the release of the book on writing containing advice and expertise from more than 100 members of our awesome group. The IWSG Guide to Publishing and Beyond is now available for free at most online book retailers. There really is something for everyone.

Hopefully, those of you doing NaNo have recovered. A few bloggers I follow rocked and made their 50,000 words goal with time to spare. Congrats to you all on your accomplishment and thank you for inspiring me.

I didn't participate in NaNo and probably never will but I did do tons of writing during the month of November. My romance publisher gave me a nudge to finish the next book in my Warriors of Gaviron Series so they could get it officially on the schedule. Frantic writing ensued but I learned that when I shut out all distractions like family, TV and even music, I could write thousands of words per day. After the terrific success of The Warrior and the Biologist, my romance publisher now has The Warrior and the Governor up for pre-order on their site and on Amazon. And they did a great job on the cover.

What has inspired you lately? Have you checked out the IWSG Guide to Publishing and Beyond? Have you learned something from its pages? Did you win NaNo?

Congratulations on your writing progress. I didn't participate in NaNo either, but used the month to finish my first round of rewrites. My fellow bloggers always inspire me.

Congratulations on another great cover. I've always been impressed by the amount you write and produce.

Lots of inspiration, Susan, but with an invalid husband so little time.

You don't need NaNo - you already write a ton! :)

NaNo was really good for me. A lot of times, I end up putting the ms away, but this time I'm actually looking forward to doing more work on it. :)

Susan, you're always inspiring. Thanks for that. And congratulations on your new book. You rock!

Thousands of words a day - wow! You rock! I don't think I'd ever be able to do NaNo either. Those people impress me like crazy - just like you!

Be well,

Elsie

I never participate in NaNo. It's not my thing. Glad your publisher nudged you to wrap up your book. Here's to seeing that done.

If you pumped out thousands of words a day, you could totally do NaNo! It would probably be easy for you ;)

Congrats on the great cover. Haha yeah you block out all those things and one can write a lot indeed

Yay for doing tons of writing. I did no writing. Haha! Congrats on a lovely cover!

The Nano game isn't for me either. I don't have a problem putting arse to chair and getting the work done. Plus, I love the even flow of writing days, rather than that cram it all in one month and then pass out on the first of December, kind of thing.

That being said, I have a very close friend who just did her 11th year for the win. This was her best year yet and she really really had a fun go.

Shutting all machines down and closing the door to my office keeps me focused too. I've been kicking butt on Killer Stilettos. Been shifting and cutting to make it move faster.

You obviously didn't need NaNo to get your writing done. Congratulations. Great cover.

Glad to know you made the deadline, Susan, and that your books are doing well.

I managed to ace NaNo this year and did it by staying ahead of my word count.

Great cover! I'm still working on trying to write and shut out all of those distractions. It's tough to do.

Congrats on all of your productivity.

Congratulations on the pre order status, the cover and all your good news! Yes, I have the IWSG guide and yes, I finished NaNo!

Nice cover! I like that it doesn't look exactly the same as so many other covers these days, which is always a good thing.

I completed my first official NaNo at a hair's breadth from 75,000 words and am looking forward to doing it again. I thought it just wasn't my style, but I ended up really enjoying it and feeling motivated.

Man, there is NOTHING like a deadline to make us productive, is there? I try to give myself deadlines, but I KNOW they're not real, so it never works. Good for you for shutting distractions out and getting it all done!

The cover is awesome! So cool your Warrior series is doing so well. I didn't do NaNo, but admire those who did. Wish I had more time, but mostly I'm slow and steady.

There is something scary about jumping in and challenging yourself to write a 50,000 MS within 30 days, I know! I joined NaNo a few years ago and pushed myself HARD! I was scared, but I did it.

Oh, it's difficult to shut out family! I can easily shut out everything else and I grumble when I have to use the bathroom or even eat. LOL But if you can join a friend in a week-long stay at a hotel, you can get TONS done. I was able to finish my 50K word goal within the first 8 days of NaNo. Easy.

I'm not a NaNo person, and I actually writer faster when I listen to music. I can pump out 2,000 words in an hour when there are no distractions to throw my focus off.

Looks great. Good luck.

I participated in NaNo once...but it's just way too much pressure to start a new book on November 1st and write the whole month. I'm usually in the middle of something when November 1st comes!

Congrats on the progress on your new book with or without NaNo! It's great to have such a supportive publisher, and great for us to hear a success story.

Beautiful cover! And Way to go with your word count! That's awesome!

I learned that moving forward sometimes takes a kitchen timer and the determination to block out all distractions . . .

and then, when the timer goes off, I finish up a few sentences and run to go hug my family! :) usually, I manage to get more written with a timer ticking away.

Hey, there's no better inspiration than a publisher knocking on your door for more, more, more!

I'm totally with you on the distractions. They need to go.

i wanted to do nano, but once the new job started, pfft!

What gets me writing is just setting the clock for 30 minutes and not stopping until it's done. Once I start, of course, I usually keep going well beyond the time. For some reason it's the starting that I avoid.

Gorgeous cover! I didn't do NaNo either, but I was productive even with all the family visits. Have a great weekend! :)

I could never participate in NaNo. I write too darn slow and have to think about it. What a nice cover, Susan!!! Good Luck!
