Lots of things going on that writers can take advantage of in the near future. Calling back to last weeks' fun with Reedsy and #IWriteBecause, Reedsy is offering a 25% discount to IWSG members. Savvy Authors are having a pitch fest from May 17th to May 19th. I didn't look at their agent list but most of the editors and publishers seem to be for romance and/or YA. They have clear rules and also a page of instructions with examples of how to write that pitch. Even if you aren't interested, you should check out their page and let it help you prepare for #IWSGPit.
On June 7th, Carina Press, a digital first line of Harlequin, is holding its fifth annual pitch fest on June 7th. So if you have a romance novel to pitch, use this #CarinaPitch. They have guidelines on their site for what they're looking for.
This coming weekend, I'm attending the 30th annual Pennwriters Conference which will be held in Pittsburgh. I'm looking forward to not only networking opportunities but also have a few workshops picked out that I hope will be of use to me in promotion. Since I'll be there all weekend, I probably not post here next Monday, but I'll have lots of good stuff to share in later posts. I'd hope to finish my WIP before the conference, but I'm going to be just short on that first draft. Working on the dark moment right now.

Hope those of you who are mothers had a good day yesterday. My children and husband did a wonderful job making mine special. It was great after a couple of really, really busy weeks.

I had some good news on the TV front when NBC canceled Timeless but then decided to bring it back in summer 2018. It was the only new show I started watching this past TV season. But three hours of TV shows per week is good for me.

Cherished Blogfest 2016
This is my first year participating in the Cherished Blogfest hosted by Dan Antion, Sharukh Bamboat, Damyanti Biswas, Mary Giese, Peter Nena, Cheryl Pennington and Kate Powell where a group of bloggers write a short post about something they cherish and why, picture included or not.
On my writing desk, I have a 4 cards my daughter made for me for Mother's Day during her years at college. A little background here, I have five sons older than my daughter. To say we are close is a vast understatement. We're not needy but sometimes it seems like we're of one mind. We share so many of the same interests and that includes numerous TV shows. Once she went away to college, we couldn't watch them together anymore but we would often call each other the next day and discuss plots and make predictions. For Mother's Day each year, she would pick our current favorite, copy a picture from the show for the front and then write very heart-felt words of her own inside. Doctor Who, The Musketeers, Once Upon a Time, and The 100 have all provided inspiration. Can't share the words, they're too private, but if you're a mother, I guarantee tears. I look at those cards and I see love.

Know Me?
Mother's Day has come and gone for another year. My gifts are scattered on my writing desk. How well my family knows me. My husband bought me flowers and a gift card to Borders. Lovely.
My oldest son bought me a gift card to Barnes and Noble. Oh yes, got both big stores covered. My second son bought me a gift card to the local convenience store so I can buy my ice coffee there. Heavenly. My third son bought me a lottery ticket, $5 winner, and a small, beautiful leather portfolio. He received it free at the golf tournament he was in but he is a poor college student. And even if it says Penn State PGA program, it is perfectly suited to me. My daughter bought me an iced tea at Border's and then gifted me with a feather quill pen and ink as well as a genuine Moleskin notebook. Do they know me or what?
Of course they know me and love me as their mother but their gifts demonstrate the way their perceive my needs and desires as well as what they see as my profession. They see me as a writer and gift me with wonderful little things to help me along. Could I be a writer without those things? Yes and I probably wouldn't buy them for myself but they are so cool to have.
