I know I'm not alone in loving the movie, The Princess Bride. It happened to be on TV while I was baking cookies. Two of my sons, both in their twenties, drifted into the kitchen, drawn by the scent of fresh baking. But the movie held them there to watch the last half hour with me.
We know the lines by heart and have our favorites. Can such a relatively, silly movie be called a classic? It is for us. I promised by boys I was going to buy the book for all my grandchildren if they ever get around to giving me any. We watched together when my boys were small and still love it. There are a few other movies we all like but not quite like The Princess Bride. I can't wait to watch it with another generation.
What movies are 'classic's for your family? Who is your favorite Princess Bride character or quote? Mine is pictured above.

I LOVE Princess Bride!! I've shared it with my 12 year old nephew and he loves it too. Favorite character is Inigo followed closely by Westley.
Favorite quote Vizzini: "He didn't fall? Inconceivable." Inigo: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
Ha! Yes, it's a classic. I know grown men who claim it is their all time favorite movie. And my husband's last name is Montoya, so we have a lot of fun with those lines. :)
Such a fun movie and what a great shorthand for family memories!
It's one of the greatest movies of all time! I know all the words and if it's on, I'll watch until the end.
Best movie ever! We must have 6 copies of it in various media forms!
Other classics here? Space Balls, Robin Hood Men in Tights, Young Frankenstein...That's what I live with... And it's good.
Hope you're doing well, Sue! We miss you around CPRW!

No more rhymes now I mean it. Anybody want a peanut?..hahaha
Yeah great movie, sure don't make them like they did back then.
We love this movie in my house, and love to quote movies in general. No one can use the word inconceivable around my kids without being told "I do not think that word means what you think it means."
I suggest you watch the movie "Stardust" and prepare to fall in love again with a movie that is in the same genre as "Princess Bride".
It's one of the few movies I love as much as the book. Such a delightful, archetypal story, that makes fun of archetypes at the same time as it presents them. A brilliant piece of comic writing enhanced by some of the funniest performances ever. (Billy Crystal talking about those "nice, lean mutton" sandwiches is another piece of brilliance.)
How can you call it 'silly'? I don't think that word means what you think it means.

The Funnily Enough
Indigo's line is the best and always will be.
Classic movies for my family would be things like The Goonies and The Dark Crystal. Labyrinth takes the top spot though. That movie never gets old.
Oh, I love the Princess Bride. I can't watch it enough.
Probably the most classic movie in my family would be "The Hunt For Red October." We can sadly recite the whole thing from beginning to end.
I ADORE The Princess Bride!
Most quoted lines by me?
Move the thing! And the other thing!
Let me explain. No is too much. Let me sum up.
Have fun storming the castle!
And please, be honest. This is for posterity.
Other classic movies we love to quote over at Casa de Quinn?
A Fish Called Wanda, Caddy Shack, Blazing Saddles, The Muppet Movie. . . I think you get the idea.
I aspire to write a story that's a classic in the same way as The Princess Bride - it's funny, charming, heart-felt, exciting, and happy. Nobody has to die of addiction, nobody breaks down halfway through, nobody gets sent to a mental institution, and yet it's in the hearts of so many movie lovers. Amazing!
My favorite quote (besides that one) is "Goodbye boys! Have fun storming the castle!" I say that to my partner-in-crime every time he leaves to go do something. Love that movie!
