So Much to Do, So Little Time

Another month has slipped away. I'm not finished with that first draft yet, though I've very close. And it's nearly time for the monthly posting of IWSG. You can still sign up on the list and be part of this dynamic group. There are some exciting announcements coming your way on Wednesday.
This month's question, should you decide to use it:
Have you ever pulled out a really old story and reworked it? Did it work out?

More sad news from the world of small presses. Samhain Publishing is closing its doors tomorrow. It was a powerhouse for a while but began facing the same difficulties all small publishers and indie authors have been facing over the last few years. I've heard nothing but good things about Samhain and how they've treated their authors and continue to treat them. It's still a sad time for the authors and the owners who have put so much work into their business. I'm quite worried about all small publishers.

As I've mentioned before, many small presses sell books directly from their site. The publisher and the author make more money from those sales without the middle man such as Amazon taking its cut. My latest release, The Outlaw's Savior, last in The Galactic Outlaw series, is now for sale on New Concepts Publishing Website.

The warm weather last week spoiled me a bit, but I put in lots of outside miles while exercising. Winter is back this week, but it's not so cold as some years. The good weather didn't help reduce my TBR pile which is very tall right now.

One of my top two favorite TV shows returns next week, Once Upon a Time. I noticed this week, how little live TV I've been watching. Sometimes, while I reading blogs in the mornings, I'll catch up to something on Demand such as Scorpion, Supernatural or a few other shows I like but don't love. Many times, I'd rather watch reruns on Netflix than check out any recent TV.

Does Samhain closing touch anyone you know? Is the weather strange in your part of the world? Are you ready for March?

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.” ― Charles DickensGreat Expectations

Hi Susan - love the Dickens quote - very appropriate for this time of year. What a great pity about Samhain - they sounded like an excellent company with the right approach to life in general. Looking forward to the IWSG ... cheers Hilary

Congratulations!! Awesome you have another book in the series.
Sad that publisher is closing. So many of them are now.

Dickens is exactly right, that's our weather now, too.

As for the small places closing because they have a difficult time competing with the big guys, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

We had some nice warm weather here last week which thankfully melted a lot of our snow. That's too bad about Samhain :(

Sucks that many of them are closing indeed. Can't really stand up against Amazon. I don't think I've watched TV live in years.

Gorgeous weather here this weekend - spent a lot of time outdoors - breakfast by the water, a spring training baseball game, sitting outside reading.

Ready for IWSG on Wednesday!

We too have had some warm weather and then got snow, not much, at the weekend. People were wearing shorts. Not me. Didn't trust the weather that much. Publishers closing down is very sad.

Yep, we got a very brief, wimpy snow, and now it's back to warm weather. I won't complain. I'm already in a summer kind of mood. That really does suck to hear about Samhain. It's hard to be 'the small guy' in this day and age.

I blinked and February's almost gone. We haven't had much of a winter at all. It feels more like April! I've known about Samhain since last year. It's gone the same way of my former publisher.

Congrats, Susan!

Samhain has been around for a while. It's always discouraging to lose a small publisher.

I had two books with Samhain. They were great to work with. I'm glad I started with them. They taught me the ropes. Sorry to see them close.

Another one. That's too bad. I'm glad they aren't giving their writers a hard time like that other company.

Bring on March. It can't be worse then February. I hope.

That's too bad that so many small presses have to close.
I was definitely spoiled by the warm weather! I don't like the cold.

Sad about the smaller publishing companies closing. It seems that is the way it happens, the "big" push out the "small" and the small can't compete. I can't believe it is March and our weather has been I think "normal" according to what the weathermen have been saying. Looking forward to the 80 degrees later this week!

Samhaims closing is a sad loss for the world of publishing. So many small prints closing.

I'm getting tired of winter - or just the snow. I don't live in it, I just have to drive in it half the time. I want a week of sun and good weather while I'm working.

Glad to read that you're very close to finishing.

That it is already end of Feb. and beginning of March amazes and dismays me. Stop time from moving, already.

Warm weather here too and not much of a winter at all. Samhain closing is sad news

The weather is very stranger here because we have had NO winter - not fun for us snow lovers haha
