IWSG: October Already

It's time for the monthly bloghop started by the awesome Alex J. Cavanaugh. Insecure Writer's Support Group posts on the first Wednesday of every month and we share our fears, successes as well as asking for and giving advice. Hope you'll join us by signing up here and visiting more members.

This month's co-hosts are Chemist Ken, Tamara Narayan, Olga Godim, and Jennifer Hawes. Thanks to them for volunteering to help.

IWSG is running a contest where you post of a picture of your IWSG swag. Alas, I didn't take any pictures despite having some pretty great swag hanging about my writing space. I will enjoy checking out all the pictures.

The optional question for this month: Have you ever slipped any of your personal information into your character either by accident of on purpose?

No, I haven't. Something that does often appear in my novels are siblings with special, supportive relationships. Not only do I have 6 siblings that are wonderful, but I have six children who love each other. I love brothers and sisters working together in books I read and on TV shows I watch. It's one of my favorite things.

“A brother is a friend given by Nature.” – Jean Baptiste Legouve

“Our brothers and sisters are there with us from the dawn of our personal stories to the inevitable dusk.” – Susan Scarf Merrell

Making some progress on my WIP though slower than I want. I'm determined to finish it soon so I can start on my next project. More on that later.

On the entertainment front, I forgot all about Poldark coming back on this past Sunday. I really enjoy the show now going into its third season. Lots of drama, history and romance. It doesn't ignore the plight of the poor like some period pieces do.

My granddaughter continues to amaze. She turns seven months old today and is already walking around things and behind push toys. And at the weekly library group, she is the only one who will sit quietly and listen and watch the leader reading a story. The other kids distract her at times, but she turns her attention back to the reading. It's great fun to be with her doing things that I didn't get to do as a mother to my own children because I was working full time.

Did you show off some swag today? Do parts of you show up in your writing? Have any siblings you adore? Are you a Poldark fan?

Poldark is on my list of shows to watch. I've only seen bits and pieces of it, and I really want to watch the entire series one day.

I have three siblings I adore. I hate being so far away from them. My mom and niece, too, of course.

Best of luck with your WIP!

Glad the library reading went well with her.
Six siblings and six kids - you are your own Brady Bunch.
Still time to take a picture and add before Wednesday!

Alex stole my Brady Bunch line haha siblings working together sure is a win indeed. The cat spills all at my sea, so yep, lots has been said.

Wait, it's not Wednesday yet, is it? No. Okay, whew! :)

Waiting for The Walking Dead to return and crossing my fingers it doesn't go more off the rails. Sigh.

I've never seen Poldark.

I did manage a photo of myself with my mug and magnet this weekend.

It is a joy to watch siblings get along.

I have a family who is much too boring to put into a book. Now cat and dog videos, I have a chance.

Wow, look at you, posting from the future. How's my day going to be tomorrow? No, wait, don't ruin it for me.

I don't drop personal info in my characters, either. I like writing about people that are different from me, not just inserting myself and my friends into stories.

I'm a big one for sibling relationships in books as well. I think it's the relationship I identify most with, maybe because I have 3 sisters? http://www.raimeygallant.com

Poldark is one of my favourites and I'm a fan of the original series (have videos, DVDs and all the books), so I'm a bit obsessed! Good to hear you're making progress with your WIP. Best of luck with it!

I love knowing you have so many loving siblings and also children. I don't have much time to watch T.V. these days beinga single mom with two kids who love each other very much too. I teach them to have each other's backs at all times. I wish you much luck on your WIP.

How wonderful you have such a terrific big family! I do slip in a little bit of me into my characters.

That's a great bit of your life to slip into your books. Sibling relationships can make for some really interesting dynamics. It's great that your granddaughter is so into books already. My daughter was the same. I think you can see kids that will be big readers from a young age.

It's wonderful to have a close relationship with your siblings. Sadly, it doesn't always work. I wish it did.

Love that you include those positive siblings! I only have 1 sib (although we are super close) but I love reading about the big families :)

I love books and movies about young boys getting into trouble. I wonder if it has anything to do with raising 5 boys??? Haha. Happy IWSG, Susan.

I'm an only child, but I was fascinated by siblings as a kid and I have to admit I had one of those "wow, twins are really cool" kind of attitudes. I also wanted my parents to adopt and I used to read a lot of adoption stories. I have two daughters and they are wonderful with and for each other. I have a tendency to write about onllies or teens with somewhat absent siblings (as in they have them, but they don't show up in the story). However, two of my co-current projects involve siblings - one friendly and one antagonistic.

Hi Susan!
A seven-month-old is pure joy! They do the cutest things...
I need to get some IWSG swag but not sure about shipping costs.
Take care. *waving*

Love Poldark. Our tv is set to record each episode, just in case we're out or someone calls. We do that for every program we like. I'm one of seven, but we don't all get along. Sad, I know. Five of us are close. I love the closeness I see with my adult kids.

You are truly blessed, Susan, for both having siblings and your own children all get along and love one another. I am one of four and I have five children. We all try to support one another and care for our extended families.

Thanks for sharing this with your followers.
