IWSG: May, 2018

I'm fully into the summer feels as May rolls into town. Today is the first Wednesday of the month and that means, IWSG posting time. Thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh, we all have this wonderful blogging group where we share our successes and insecurities. And the IWSG is more than that. Visit their website and check out all the resources, and while you're there, check out the entire list of blogging participants.

This month's optional question for the group:
It's spring! Does this season inspire you to write more than others, or not?

The nicer the weather, the less writing I get done. I exercise more, have hours of yard work to do each week, and love sitting on my porch or deck to read. My best writing season is winter and the cold rains of spring and fall, though I despise those times.

If I have an insecurity, it's that my marketing sucks, as in I hate doing it and have been ignoring it.  Other sorrowful news, I received two rejections from publishers as I search for a home for my previously published fantasy novel. The publisher closed and the 2nd and 3rd books weren't published before the closure.

We did have a cold wet spring so I completed the first draft of the first novel in my next space opera romance trilogy. I wrote about 78K in seventy days. And it's a little less rough than my usual first drafts. I also completed the last round of edits on the last book in the dystopian trilogy. I'll have a release date for Exile's Savage Lady soon.

I'm making some blogging plans for the summer. Every Wednesday except for the first one of the month, I'm going to host a writer friend for some fun and promotion. I'll let you know more about it later and offer some dates for my IWSG friends.

Some of the shows I've really been looking forward to are back for their short runs. The 100 is back, my favorite post-apocalypse show. Timeless is also back though not quite as fun as the first season was. Once Upon a Time has only a few episodes left in the series run. Will be sad to see it go, but I've loved it all. Supernatural has been enjoyable this season. New shows I've been checking out are Krypton (giving it an OK), Deception, and The Crossing. I like The Crossing a lot.

I've been a bit absent in the blogging world, but I hope to catch up to everyone in the next week. Does the nice weather interfere with your writing? Any good shows entertaining you or some you're looking forward to their return?

Our spring has been unusually cold, too.

Sorry you can't find a home for your novels.

I loved that Scoobynatural episode of Supernatural. So funny!

I hate marketing, too, and avoid it at nearly every opportunity. Sorry to hear that you're struggling to find a home for your fantasy novel. Hope that turns around for you soon!

Sorry to hear about the marketing/publisher struggles. It does sound like you're making lots of progress writing-wise, though. :)

I've never seen The 100, but it's in my To Watch feed. Preparing myself for the series finale soon of The Middle. Will really miss that show. Sigh.

Yes, we're slow on spring too. Yesterday felt like the first day. Sorry about the rejections. I haven't started marketing yet, but it's my greatest fear of getting published.

Marketing is the worst! Not something I'm good at or enjoy. I hope you find a home for your books soon. Cheers - Ellen

That's a lot of words in a short amount of time - well done!
Legion is back on. Still just as awesome and weird as ever.

No matter how nice the weather, you never seem to stop in terms of how much you get done. All the best in finding a home for that series soon.

That's awesome on the new manuscript! Good luck with finding the stories a home. I loathe marketing too. I've stepped back from it lately just to write. I watched the first bit of Krypton and decided to pass on it.

I haven't seen the Crossing yet - but I think it looks great!
Marketing is SO HARD!

78K in seventy days is wonderful!

78K in seventy days? FANTASTIC!
My approximately 12K in 100 days pales in comparison...you such are a prolific writer!

It's autumn my end of the globe... lovely weather too!

Happy IWSG Day, Susan!
Hope you're well! *waving*

At least you know when you get your best writing done. 78k in 70 days is awesome!

Have a good week.

Wow! Way to go with your writing! I hope you find a new publisher soon.
I'm also a little distracted in the spring, but I just keep finding little bits of time to write.

Hooray for that cold, wet spring! Good job.

I liked Once Upon a Time for the first 3-ish seasons, but it started losing me after that. I've been stuck on The Amazing Race since I found out Amazon Prime includes 25 back-seasons. :)

That sucks about the rejections. Hopefully, the next one will be yes.

There is no spring. There is only summer. =)

Here's hoping you find a great home for your series. So sad about the publisher.

A show we've been enjoying this season is Marvel's Agents of Shield. I haven't been the biggest fan of this show in the past, but this season is pretty epic.

There's always more to do than there is time in the day to do it, and that is especially so when the weather is nice!

78K is grand in that many days indeed. Stinks the publisher closed. Supernatural sure has been enjoyable this season indeed. They'll hit 300 episodes next year and keep on a going.

78K in 70 days - that is over a thousand words a day for over two months running. Terrific!
Good luck with your search for a publisher.

Sorry about your lack of home for your novels. Happened to an Australian friend of mine, her first book was published and then the publisher closed. She then wrote more stories and found publishers for them and has since re-published her first book. So don't give up.

I love your work ethic, Susan. I hope you find a publisher for your babies. I'm sure you will. (I gave you a little shout out today on my post).

I'm also enjoying The Crossing. It's the only new show I kept watching after the first couple of episodes.

I'm struggling with marketing too! Always! :)
I'm enjoying the AMC series The Terror.

I have yet to read an author say they love marketing. Not my fav thing to do, still necessary though. My blog is always open to IWSG members. I love guests. Contact me at: dmburton72@gmail.com to set up a date.

I also tend to get less writing done when it's nice out. Good luck placing your trilogy! I have another friend in the same boat, though the first two were published before their publisher shut down.

I certainly find myself distracted by the improving weather. Best of luck finding a home for your fantasy series!

Hi Susan,

Sorry about the news for your unpublished books. They'll find a home soon. WOW, you are writing like crazy! SOOOO many books. I wish I had your stamina.

I just started a MEMOIR that may make a bit of noise. Hopefully. Fascinating woman. Crazy, too. LOL. Wrote about fifty pages so far. But I really need to keep cracking on it. The daughter, of the woman I am featuring, is anxious and wants the first draft completed by the time I leave Florida. I have a month to crank out 150 pages. Ugh. It will be a chore for sure. Luckily I have all the stories, I just need to compile them into a fun romp through her life.

It's off to a good start! My snippet won first prize in the WEP, ROADS LESS TRAVELED. This woman DEFINITELY traveled on that road. LOL

Nice weather definitely interferes with my writing, though I'm hoping to write on the back porch more this year. I hardly went out on my porch at all last year, and I was disappointed when the cold weather came in.

I have a couple friends in the same boat as you (first novel published then the company going under and leaving the rest of the trilogy hanging.) I hope you find a publisher soon.

The nice weather actually helps me write more-I swear I am solar powered. Sorry about your rejections, but try to stay positive. It's probably less to do with your marketing skills and more to do with the personal tastes or situations of the publishers you approached. Congrats on writing 78K in seventy days-that's awesome! And great you finished your last round of edits too.
