IWSG: April 2019

The first Wednesday of the month means time for the monthly bloghop of IWSG members. Thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh and all the wonderful administrators of the group, we have this safe place to share concerns, victories, and ask questions. Find the entire list of participants here.

This month's optional question:

If you could use a wish to help you write just one scene/chapter of your book, which one would it be?

I thought I didn't have an answer to this question, but then I realized I would like that magic wish for the first chapter in the new epic fantasy series. I'm only in the world-building/plotting stage so far, but we all know how important that first chapter is when we start to query. I'm going to try all the big traditional publishing houses again.

In place of wishes, I'm still working hard on the next book in my Generation Ship series. I'm nearly at the end.

"You can't wait for inspiration. Sometimes you have to go after it with a club." Jack London

How exciting is this month in entertainment? End Game from the Avengers, the final season of Game of Thrones, and the return of my favorite TV show, The 100. It seems like there is a new trailer from Thrones or Marvel every few days. It is so exciting.

I finally watched Aquaman last weekend. It was really entertaining and more fun than any of the previous DC movies. I'm looking forward to Shazam coming up this month, too.

The announcement that Supernatural will end after next season was bittersweet. I feel like the show has been at its best the last two years, but I'm glad they're going out before they lose their mojo. I have to wonder about the ending. Can it make sense for the main characters to get out of it alive?

I caught up to The Expanse on Amazon recently and really enjoyed it. Has anyone read the books? Are they good? Though my TBR shelf is sagging under the weight of all the books awaiting my attention.

Factoid from The Old Farmer's Almanac:
On this day in 1860, the Pony Express began postal service.

Do you have a special writing wish? Is 2019 a great year for entertainment or what? Have any predictions on who will survive End Game of GoT season 8? Do you think mail delivery has improved since the Pony Express?

Hi,
I love the quote you posted about inspiration because it is so true. Sometimes, I find myself tying myself to my chair and not getting up until I have written a few pages or a chapter of my story. The amazing thing is that after I have done this, I feel so much better.
Good luck with finishing your next book. You can do it.

Good luck with querying.

I bet the Pony Express didn't charge $12.00 to mail a puzzle. LOL (I did that Monday. I think the postage was more than the puzzle.)

Getting the first chapter right is even harder with a fantasy where you have all that world building too. But it's so much fun to write fantasy. Good luck with yours.

Good luck with the querying process!

I am way more excited about GoT than I should be...but I don't care! :)

My TBR shelf is in need of serious repair from the weight of countless books, all waiting their turn...
Good luck with the Generation Ship series!
Happy IWSG Day!

Aquaman was awesome! We just watched it again last Saturday.
Now, finish that ending.

I'm looking forward to Aquaman - everyone I know who has seen it has enjoyed it!
Hope the world building is going well!

I was down about the announcement for Supernatural, but I agree it's time they end it before it loses its mojo. I have no idea if the characters will make it out alive. I can't see them ever living normal lives. Good luck with your querying!

I hadn't caught the Game of Thrones mania until about a month ago. Now I'm bingeing to try to catch up before the final season starts. Wish me luck!

I wish you great success with the traditional route! My husband watched The Expanse and enjoyed it. I only caught snippets of it as I walked through the living room.

While it's probably become less exciting for our mail to travel, I think our system has definitely improved since the Pony Express.
Wishing you success with the traditional route - I'm trying that, too.

Here's to successful querying and placing your books!

Bloody hell I've got to catch up on Supernatural! I'll be sad to see it end. Good lucky querying when you get there!

Yes, that quote is perfect. I don't wait for inspiration. My mind knows when I crack open the laptop that it's time to write!

Sometimes i wish i could write. Then i see how hard it is to get into the business.

Here's another fact about the Pony Express -- it only lasted two years. Once the telegraph came along, there was no need for it.

I loved Aquaman. Looking forward to Avengers too. I have the first 3 season of Supernatural on DVD when it first started. I am surprised it ran this long but glad it did. Happy IWSG!

Love that quote! I write a certain number of words everyday whether I'm inspired or not. They might be throw away words, they might have seeds of new ideas, they might be right on point, but I get them on the page.

Pony Express was more fun though. Don't watch a lot of TV but I have been reading a lot of books by Jeff Wheeler and thoroughly enjoying them.

Sometimes getting that first chapter down can be the biggest hurdle of all. After that, I tend to be in the swing of it. Good luck!

Best of luck with your querying.

I'm both excited for the final season of Game of Thrones and anxious over the fate of my favorite characters. So far no one has been safe from an untimely demise.

I love television and hardly ever go to a movie in a theater these days. I'm especially happy when the singing and dance competitions are on, although Survivor and Big Brother are my overall favorites. My evenings are all about the shows (with sometimes a little crocheting to make me feel my time is not totally wasted).

Postage is sky-high. When I ordered the proof copy of my new release, the postage was as much as the proof. I watch a lot of TV series. Unfortunately, not the ones you do. :(

Shazam looks like such a fun movie. I need to watch Expanse. I think I would enjoy it. Good luck with your writing!

Yes yes and more yesses, read the Expanse books. At least the first three. Read before watching the series, which is also fantastic. One of the few times the casting was spot on with the novel's characters. (Don't get me started about Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher ...) Happy April!

My writing wish is probably more common than special, but here goes: I'd like to be a successful author with a sustainable career. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm tired of working so hard, and would love to be able to pick and choose side projects instead of taking everything that's offered to me because I'm terrified about not making ends meet.

Not too much to ask, right? ;) Thanks for visiting my blog this month!
