A to Z Blogging Challenge: V

Welcome to another post in the 2013 A to Z Blogging Challenge. Meet lots of interesting bloggers on the complete list here. I'm made so many new friends as I throw out another piece of the long list of steps I plan to take after my retirement from teaching to become a full time writer that will propel me into fame and fortune. Well, at least advance my career in some way.

V: Video. Like so many of my generation, I'm not at the top of the class when it comes to technology and all the wonderful ways it can be used to promote my books. Some people are much better and display their talent by creating beautiful, engaging book trailers. This summer I'm going to make one of those videos. Or two or three or perhaps ten. I already have ideas and lots of notes and web addresses of how to do this. Wish me luck.

Have you made a video to promote your book? Do you think them a good way to promote a book?

I used Fotolia for some of the background video feed. It is a wonderful place where you purchase rights to the video/pictures and therefor do not have to worry about infringing on someone's copyright. Also Microsoft has a very easy to use movie maker program that you can download for free. I obtained my music from freemusicarchive.org -It is a site where most of the music has been released by musicians who do not mind if you use their music, as long as you refer back to them as your source. I don't know if you already know of these sources or not, but I know, for me, they made the process of making a trailer virtually painless and relatively inexpensive.

I have a trailer for my YA series and it's amazed me how many times it's been watched on YouTube over the years.

I think they are a great way to advertise an author's book. They excite the senses to really get a potential reader interested.

I know I will create one when the time comes.

In this day and age, I would think a video is a must have for marketing. Great idea!

The two book trailers my publisher made were awesome! Can't wait to see the third.

As cool as it would be to have a book video, I do not have a book trailer, nor do I possess the skills to create one. I do, however, have a friend who may be able to help. But I have a feeling that's still a long way off.

no video skills here--sounds like a good idea though!

I wish you all the best with this. I have no skills when it comes to modern video stuff. I can take pictures, but that's about it.

I think it is a great idea.

I have never done a video and I don't know if I want to. I don't like book trailers for the most part, they just don't seem to capture the spirit of the book with all the stock photos and animation.

I dragged my heels about making a video for one of my books and then ended up loving it. It was so much fun to make.

I wish I had a publisher like Alex who would make them for me. His are great.
Thanks, Melanie, for the link. Just one more thing I've learned in a to z.
I better move this to the top of my list.

I don't have a completed book yet, but I have made a few videos. One was a music video for Lovehammers, which was featured on their Myspace page, and served as THE video for the song for awhile. Another was a music video contest entry for the same band, for which I won an autographed electric guitar. Later, they asked me to create a video with which to open their concerts, which I did! The funny thing is that I've never created any other videos since then. I would really like to though.

Good luck with your video! I want to make one, but haven't quite decided how I want it to go yet.

I don't know if they are helpful or not but they do sound interesting and fun to put together. I don't have a fiction book due out, but I toy around with making food videos.
