Freezing Friday

Wow, did winter slam up or what this week? I'm enjoying my fireplace and being home alone while all the menfolk are on a golfing holiday in Myrtle Beach. It's lovely. Besides getting ahead on my blog posts, I'm completing the rough outline for my next novel.

The other thing that has taken a few hours of my day is doing some food shopping for Thanksgiving. I make a list, go shop and then make another list for all the things I forgot to put on the first list. Not fun times though I love the day, I don't care for the shopping leading up to it. It's a great family day though. And that brings us to my Tolkien quote for the day from The Hobbit and Thorin Oakenshield.
‘If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.’
And some wisdom from The Old Farmer's Almanac:

Goods that are much on show lose their color.  Brazilian proverb

"Allow children to be happy in their own way, for what better way will they ever find." Dr. Samuel Johnson

Use cream of tartar as a cleanser to brighten stainless steel.

Hope everyone is warm this weekend or if you live north of me, I hope you managed to shovel your way out of your house. What are you working on this week? Have your shopping ready for Thanksgiving (if you live in the USA)? Ever use cream of tartar to clean?

Hope you have all the food now. If I forget something, we usually just don't eat it. (Although forgetting the turkey would be a problem.)
And I'm sure the guys were freezing their asses off in Myrtle Beach this week...

It's pretty cold here, too, but then it's Maine and almost December so that's normal. I'm working on two projects - an older project which I'm revising, and a new one, which I've sort of been thinking about off and on for a while. Hope you remember to get everything you need before t-day :)

Hi Susan .. thankfully we do don't do Christmas .. so still have a month to think about Christmas time for us ...

I love your quotes and Thorin's one particularly - which could so easily be adapted to today's world ...

Cream of tartar - think I must remember that ...

Good luck with the Turkey etc .. and shopping for all Thanksgiving necessities (or preferabilities .. I think I made that up!!) .. cheers Hilary

Thankfully I don't shop for thanksgiving, so no need to remember. True quote indeed, but so many take greed

I like that Johnson quote! It's freezing here too. The weekend is going to be warm and rainy before turning cold again. We're visiting my in-laws for Thanksgiving, so I don't have any shopping to do. Just a lot of driving! Have a lovely weekend.

I was just thinking about how freezing I was. It's definitely a good week to stay inside and write. Enjoy your fireplace :)

I did my shopping yesterday for Thursday, but I'll be going back again too, no question. I have assignments for each day leading up to it. At the moment I am ignoring my Saturday chores for a little blog reading. Happy Thanksgiving!

Congrats on finishing the outline! The snow has been crazy. I hope things improve over there soon. I had no idea cream of tartar could be used for stainless steel.
