With my new 'take the pressure' off myself plan for 2014, I took some time to see if all the efforts I've been going to have made my social presence anything of note. This article in Writer's Digest 2014 Yearbook gave me these benchmarks along with lots of other goodies. I assume this is the author's opinion and nothing really scientific but it's interesting.
Twitter followers? You need 5,000 to be notable, 15,000 to be very notable and 50,000 is impressive.
Blog page views? 20,000/month to be notable, 100,000 to be very notable and 500,000 to be impressive.
Have a newsletter? 5,000 subscribers to be notable, 20,000 to be very notable and 100,000 to be impressive.
Have some self-pubbed books for sale? Sell 2,000/month to be very notable, 6,000 to be very notable and 15,000 to be impressive.
What did I learn from these interesting numbers? I'm not very notable. I've read some recommendations on how to make a big splash on Twitter and Facebook, a viral book campaign to up your numbers. Not something I'm comfortable with. I spend a little time each day on those two media giants and try to blog three times per week. I'm making contacts and friends, and that's enough note for me.
So do you make the notable level or perhaps you're even impressive? Do you have a newsletter or subscribe to author newsletters?
If you're not already my friend on Facebook or Twitter, I would love to connect to you there.

I'm nowhere near notable, according to those numbers, and probably never will be, heh. (Oh, well!)
You're notable to me, does that count?

I'm so way off notable it's ridiculous - but, hey, I'm happy and I don't care... much :-)
Actually, the thought of that many Twitter followers makes me feel a little queasy - you'd definitely be beyond interacting with everyone, wouldn't you?
The quick fixes to gain a lot of followers or page views never seem to work long term anyway. I think my blog is the closest I come to notable.
I need to work on some of those. I know my blog gets over 20,000 page views, but I don't even have a newsletter. Heck, what would I say?
Heather, you and me, both.
Thanks, Mooderino. Right back at you.
I know what you, Annalisa. How would you keep up with tweets?
I've wondered that same thing. L. Diane.
I thought you were notable, Alex, in many ways.
You are super duper notable to me.
I agree with The Happy Whisk. :)
I'm not even close to notable. But does that really matter? Your words of wisdom have inspired me on more than one occasion- but I doubt there's a way for them to gauge that!
I never check stats, but I don't need to check to know I'm not going to count as notable!! :P I haven't even joined FB yet - one of these days :)
I am not notable, but I am happy!
I am not notable, but I am happy!
Yipeee I'm impressive, at least on twitter lol blog pageviews I'm notable, newsletter nope, sales haha nope
Those sound like Superstar numbers to me. I think you can be successful without those numbers. (Maybe I am wrong... I don't know.) I am not sure how I would handle all of those followers on my blog. You certainly couldn't follow everyone back and you wouldn't even have time to respond to comments. I think your platform would lose all interaction and it would just be a promo platform.
I like having meaningful relationships. Being notable., nah.
Hugs and chocolate!

Notable, no way. Recognizable, more likely.
Wow. I'm going to say that right now I'm okay with being completely off the radar but productive. :)
I'm certainly not notable and wouldn't have a clue how to start a newsletter, and who would want one from me, anyway?
Life and writing can be fun without all this, so does it matter?
You're doing more than well, Susan. Happy weekend.
Not even close to notable, but honestly, how would I keep up with all those people? Right now I interact with about 75% of my Twitter and FB followers on a regular basis, and all of my blog commenters. I would hate to lose that personal connection just to be more notable.
Though I wouldn't complain about more book sales. ;-)
I think the numbers game is like chasing your tail: you caught it, now what? It can be very anxiety producing and not overly productive to let the numbers be your measuring stick.I always go back to find your bliss and purpose in writing. That's success.
I don't check stats, so I have no idea!
Wishing you a happy, peaceful and productive 2014, Susan!
Take care.

I'm nowhere near notable myself. I do subscribe to a few newsletters, but not too many to clog up my inbox.
